A recent poll conducted by CCSBoardroom has shown that 34% of respondents believe that employee moral studies should be conducted on an annual basis, 26% of respondents believe that they should be conducted on a monthly basis and a further 16% consider they should be conducted on a monthly basis. Without a doubt formal morale audits should be conducted (as illustrated in the survey, with only 5% thinking they should not be conducted at all), however are high frequency, formal audits necessary? Every organisation has some form of dysfunctional process or behaviour, a common theme appears to be the breakdown of ‘communication’. A breakdown in all forms: within the company between managers and their people, between divisions or departments, or even at board level between board members. This is not based on anecdotal feedback, but rather results of carefully measured processes and assessments conducted by our clients and ourselves. Recent research has shown that online networking sites, such as Facebook and MySpace could cost businesses up to $5 billion a year in lost productivity. However, such sites promote the ability to create links and contacts with like minded people to share personal ideas and interests. But what if there was a networking site that allowed for the discussion of ideas but kept the focus on management topics and issues and areas of concern for today’s managers? What if there was a site that was a dedicated resource for management to get reliable, useful information, debate current management challenges and build peer networks? This would make time spent on such a site no longer a cost incurred by the business, but instead a benefit gained through the education of the user! Well, luckily, there is!
