People seldom get the recognition they deserve

Friday, March 30th, 2007

I was sitting in the Airline lounge earlier today and wondering about the last time the cleaners were recognised for their contributrion. In most organisations I come across, people at the ‘front-line’, who make an enormous difference to the environement we all work in, seldom get the recognition they deserve. Why is that?

Is it because we are too busy on our own self preservation that we are oblivious to others? Even some times our direct reports. Is it because we don’t recognise the jobs and functions of these people as important? Is it because the type of menial labour these people perform is not something we would now do ourselves, even if at some point in our lives we did? Is it because the pay grade is beneath ours? Do we feel our job is so much more important?

One day I hope that Managers and CEO’s feel as passionate about the work of the front-line employee, as they do about their own tasks. This would bring about a significant feeling of well being and pride to many in the company. Recognising people for their contribution is one of the easiest ways to increase productivity and employee happiness. Try it sometime. Let me know the outcomes!

The New Economy Challenge

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Hello all.  The challenge of getting CEO’s to understand the new economy is an interesting one.  Lets look at the demographics of many current CEO’s:  Baby Boomers, with kids in high school and college.  CEO’s are fairly IT literate when it comes to handhelds and blackberry’s but actually could be quite ignorant when it comes to ideas like SEO, Bloggs, Internet Marketing, Forums and Online Chat.

The challenge is to educate Senior Management as soon as possible to ensure they can relate to growing market opportunities, the change of business styles and importantly maintain a connection to the younger generation …. the people that work for each and every CEO.

Hope you have a smiley blogg day !!  :zzz
